The first ever Gazzetta Sports Awards, held in Milan’s Metropol Theatre, was a resounding triumph: Damiani has designed and created the rings awarded to the athletes of the year.
In its maiden edition, Gazzetta Sports Awards is a prize that the Italian sports daily, La Gazzetta dello Sport, has distributed to champions who stood out in various disciplines during 2015. The event is organized in association with Coni.
Giorgio Damiani, on stage with Andrea Monti, Editor of La Gazzetta dello Sport, said: “Damiani has always related to the world of sports excellence. It has been a pleasure and a privilege for us to create this special ring that embodies the values of sports as well as our brand.”
Damiani jewels were given during the event by: the US Open women’s champion Flavia Pennetta, winner of the woman of the year prize, sporting the white gold and diamond Eden earrings; Elisabetta Conte, the wife of Italy’s soccer coach Antonio Conte, the coach of the year winner, who opted for a white gold and diamond D.Lace; Teresa Mannino, who compered the show in her pink gold and diamond Drip Drop earrings.
Damiani has wished to create a unique ring, reinterpreting one of the Maison’s classical collections. A precious girdle not only for the material used and the expert craftsmanship with over 90 years of history but also for the intense and intrinsic symbolic meaning embodied in the prize logo and melted into the personality of Metropolitan Dream, a must collection by Damiani, particularly appreciated for its design and versatility.
Metropolitan Dream stands out for the texture of its craftsmanship, the fruit of the artisanal skills blended into the savoir faire of Damiani master goldsmiths coupled with in-depth studies. Thanks to sublime gold crafting techniques, Damiani creates a sophisticated workmanship that plays with different types of gold. The ring, the circle, a paradigm of flawlessness and harmony, an evocative image of a quintessential sports challenge, the Olympics, represented by one single band comprising as many as four different rings, each one in a different gold colour: rosé, yellow, brown and black. These four souls are held together by a knot specially created and concealed below the finger. The knot that unites the four rings, retaining their individual identities and endowing the whole band with a breezy movement, wishes to represent the dynamism underlying the will power that drives athletes to strive beyond their limits and reach goals and objectives that are higher and higher. Etched inside the veining of each ring in the band are diamonds, white and bright, placed in an apparent casual manner, to symbolically express the concept of the first one, the only one, the beam of light that comes out of the multitude to become a champion, a meteor that flashes across the firmament.
Surely a Ring, an Award, a World of meanings stemming from the excellence of sports newspapers, created by the perfection of Italian high-end jewelry, to pay tribute to the country’s sporting excellence: all embedded into the Gazzetta Sports Award, by Damiani.
